Hyderabad: Hundreds of government and local body school teachers are set to hit the streets, with a maha dharna scheduled at Indira Park on August 1, demanding that the State government address their pending issues, including the announcement of PRC fitment.

The Telangana Prantha Upadhyaya Sangam (TPUS), which has called for the protest, also demanded that the government release six pending DAs and clear pending bills.

TPUS president Vodnala Rajasekhar and general secretary T Pentayya said that as numerous representations made to the government and the officials concerned had yielded no results, teachers were left with no choice but to launch the maha dharna.

The teachers wanted the Congress government to fulfil the promises made in the Abhayahastam manifesto. They demanded that the government immediately obtain the PRC report and announce 51 per cent fitment. They also sought immediate clearance of all pending bills relating to employees, teachers and pensioners that have accumulated in the treasury.

The TPUS pointed out that the delay in releasing six DAs was causing significant financial losses to employees and teachers. It said pensioners had been waiting for their benefits for a long time and urged the government to release them without further delay.

The association wanted the government to pay wages for the 29-day strike period of KGBV and SSA women teachers and staff, besides implementing the MTS system. It also sought an early decision on implementing the 010 budget head account for paying salaries to the staff of Model Schools and other Gurukul institutions.

Implementation of the Old Pension Scheme for 2003 DSC teachers, scrapping the Contributory Pension Scheme, fixing 40 per cent qualifying marks in the special TET, and regularisation of 2008 DSC contract teachers are among the other demands raised by the teachers.
