Hyderabad: Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said the State government had always accorded top priority to law and order since it is a key factor to determine the progress and development of a State.
Accordingly, budgetary allocations for the police department has increased considerably in the last few years. Before State formation, there were 63,181 posts in the department which have now increased to 86,829. Similarly, vehicles also increased from 5,703 to 20,004. Following the rise in the fleet, police are now able to reach crime spots within ten minutes of receiving the message, she said.
The State has set a record in the country by installing a whopping 6.65 lakh CCTV cameras, which accounts for 65 per cent of the total CCTVs installed in the entire country, as part of surveillance and detection in all open areas. “Britain-based Comparitech Organization stated that Hyderabad city occupied 16th position in the world among the cities, which are using CCTV cameras,” she said.
Cyber Warriors have been posted in every police station to tackle cybercrimes and also educate people about cyber-based crimes. This is the first time in the country that special officers are posted exclusively to detect cybercrimes in all the police stations, she informed the House. “The Command and Control Centre being set up with state-of-the-art technology in Hyderabad would become operational shortly. It will aid in maintaining and monitoring law and order,” said the Governor.
Telangana is known for communal harmony and peaceful coexistence and has unique Ganga Jamuna Tahzeeb. In the past, curfews were imposed regularly to maintain law and order. After the formation of Telangana, curfew was not imposed even for a day in the city. “Hyderabad belongs to everyone. People from different regions, religions, creeds and community are living happily together here,” said Tamilisai Soundararajan.
