Telangana govt to create Haritha Nidhi for protection of plants
On Friday, the Chief Minister said the Haritha Nidhi was aimed at bringing a sense of participation among citizens of the State.

Hyderabad: Haritha Nidhi, a green fund, has been initiated by the State government for effective implementation of the Telangana ku Haritha Haram programme in the State. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao who made an announcement in the State Assembly in this regard, urged people to take up the responsibility of environmental protection and plantation.
On Friday, the Chief Minister said the Haritha Nidhi was aimed at bringing a sense of participation among citizens of the State. Accordingly, it has been proposed to deduct Rs 500 per month from the salaries of MPs, MLAs and MLCs as well as Rs 100 per month from salaries of civil servants and Rs 25 per month from salaries of all government employees.
Further, the government is planning to collect an additional amount during property and vehicle registrations, towards the green fund. It has been proposed to collect Rs 5 per students at the time of school admissions. Donations also will be accepted from voluntary organisations and individuals towards this novel initiative. “The government is working out modalities necessary for creating the Haritha Nidhi. Necessary guidelines will be issued soon,” he said.
Addressing the Assembly during a short discussion on ‘Telangana ku Haritha Haram’, Chandrashekhar Rao said the State government launch Telangana ku Haritha Haram in 2015 with an aim to plant 230 crore trees through rejuvenation of forests and plantation of new saplings, avenue and multi-layer plantations, and also development of urban and rural lung spaces. So far, around 237.42 crore saplings have been planted in the State since 2015, with an expenditure of Rs 6,556 crore.
To ensure that areas demarcated for development of lung spaces or parks in newly developed layouts are not used for any other purposes, the government is working out modalities to enforce plantation in these areas immediately to provide layout approvals and other permissions.
