Conduct elections to PACs without delay: BRS leader Manikyam

Farmers in Sangareddy have urged the Telangana government to hold elections to Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies instead of appointing nominated committees. Led by BRS leader Patnam Manikyam, they submitted a representation to Additional Collector R Pandu on Monday

Sangareddy: While the government was preparing to appoint nominated committees for 908 Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS) in Telangana, several farmers, who are members of PACS in Sangareddy, urged the government to conduct elections instead of naming nominated committees following Telangana Cooperative Acts Society, 1964.

The farmers led by BRS leader and former DCCB Vice-chairman Patnam Manikyam met Additional Collector R Pandu and presented a representation during the grievances on Monday. Further citing the recommendations of Vaidyanathan Committee, Manikyam said that the nomination of posts will destroy the system.

Stating that the government already extended the existing committees tenure twice, he said that the government must hold the elections. Manikyam said that the government should complete the election process before the tenure comes to end, beginning the process three months before the tenure would come to an end.

The BRS leaders said that many states such as Gujarat were continuing the election process to name the committees for all the PACs even today. He observed that the nomination will serve no process unless the election is made by involving farmers.
