Hyderabad: Telangana has immense potential for the development of sports and the Young India Physical Education and Sports University will play a significant role in this, said Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary to the Telangana Government.
Speaking at the Young India Sports Summit at Gachibowli here on Thursday, Jayesh Ranjan said it was good to see so many stakeholders in the promotion of sports participate in the first-ever programme of the university.
“The whole objective of the Young India University is to establish a strong ecosystem for sports and also ensure high-quality education and mould young sporting talent,” he said.
A P Jitender Reddy, Advisor to the State Government (Sports), hoped that the university would earn worldwide fame with its novel initiatives in the promotion of sports.
Sports Authority of Telangana Chairman Shiv Sena Reddy said these programmes were being conducted as part of the vision of Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to give a new direction to sports.
SATG VC and MD Soni Bala Devi said that over the last two years, the State Government had initiated many sports development programmes and also conducted several international events.
Young India Sports University Vice-Chancellor Dr Kishore Gopinath said they would make conscious efforts to ensure that the best sports policies are integrated to ensure the best courses are taught in the university for a better future for athletes.
Internationals P Gopichand, JJ Shobha, Dronacharya awardee Ismail Baig (rowing), N Ramesh (athletics), Olympian Neha Agarwal, Prof Dr Chinnappa Reddy, former Technical Advisor to the State Government (Sports), Mangipudi Prasad and Karthik Yanamandra of 360D Sports were among those who also spoke.
