Hyderabad: Justice NV Shravan Kumar of the Telangana High Court on Monday directed MLC and YouTuber Chinthapandu Naveen Kumar to approach the Nampally trial court for the release of his passport.

The direction came while hearing a writ petition filed by Naveen challenging the impounding of his passport by the Regional Passport Office through an order dated May 14, 2025.

In its counter, the Passport Authority stated that over 60 criminal cases had been registered against the petitioner across various police stations.

However, Naveen’s counsel, Chikkudu Prabhakar, argued that a charge sheet was filed in only one case, which is currently pending before the criminal court at Nampally. He further contended that impounding the passport violated the petitioner’s fundamental right to travel abroad, especially as he needed to accompany his daughter for urgent medical treatment overseas.

After hearing both sides, the High Court directed the petitioner to move an appropriate application before the trial court where the chargesheeted case is pending and seek relief in accordance with law.
