Hyderabad: The division bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice Mohiuddin on Monday dismissed an appeal filed by the Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board which challenged the local quota candidature of a Scheduled Caste woman candidate for the post of a Stipendiary Cadet Trainee (SCT) Police Constable (AR) under Hyderabad local quota.

In an earlier round of litigation, the candidate, Sangeetha, challenged the Board’s decision in rejecting her local candidature status. She contested that she had pursued her 8th to 10th standard in Hyderabad and had resided in the city for a total of five years, meeting the criteria prescribed under the recruitment notification.

The single judge conceded with the petitioner’s contentions and ruled in her favour.

Challenging the single judge order, the Board filed the present appeal. The division bench upheld the order passed by the single judge dismissing the appeal.
