Hyderabad: Justice T. Madhavi Devi of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday expressed serious concern over the manner in which the Geesugonda police investigated the death of a Warangal man and directed the Assistant Government Pleader for Home to obtain instructions from the police authorities on the feasibility of conducting a re-postmortem.
The direction came in a writ petition filed by Lyadella Priyanka, wife of the late Lyadella Raju of Gorrekunta village in Geesugonda Mandal, seeking a fair and effective investigation into her husband’s death.
A. Likith Reddy and B. Balraju counsels appearing on behalf of the petitioner submitted that photographs of the deceased clearly showed visible external injuries on the body.
However, the post-mortem examination report recorded that no internal or external injuries were found, while the Forensic Science Laboratory report merely noted the cause of death as sudden cardiac arrest.
Counsel contended that these glaring inconsistencies, coupled with the conduct of the investigating officials, cast serious doubt on the investigation and warranted a re-post-mortem to ascertain the true cause of death.
The petitioner alleged that despite informing the police about the persons she suspected and repeatedly raising doubts regarding her husband’s death, the investigation carried out by the local police had been perfunctory and one-sided.
It was further submitted that despite representations to the Commissioner of Police, Warangal Commissionerate, the District Collector and the Telangana State Human Rights Commission seeking a fair investigation, no effective action had been taken.
Alleging suppression of material evidence and complete inaction on the part of the investigating agency, the petitioner sought directions for a fair and impartial investigation and for conducting a re-post-mortem under videography.
Taking note of the serious allegations and the apparent discrepancies, Justice T. Madhavi Devi directed the Assistant Government Pleader for Home to file a detailed counter and obtain instructions from the Geesugonda police regarding the possibility of conducting a re-post-mortem. The matter was adjourned by a week.
