Telangana HC questions government on land ‘rajinama’
Balagoni Saikiran and others of Kondapaka village, Siddipet district, filed a case challenging the action of Revenue authorities in taking over the land owned by the petitioners
Hyderabad: A two-judge panel of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B Vijayasen Reddy on Thursday quizzed the government on the veracity of its claim to lands obtained under the practice of land ‘rajinama’ whereby interest in land is given up by people.
Balagoni Saikiran and others of Kondapaka village, Siddipet district, filed a case challenging the action of Revenue authorities in taking over the land owned by the petitioners. The land is now allocated to others by the authorities. On hearing the authorities’ contention that the land was given by the petitioners to government by way of ‘rajinama’, the panel expressed its doubt about ‘rajinama’. It commented that the concept of ‘rajinama’ was forgotten and expressed doubt if the petitioners had given ‘rajinama’. The panel directed the authorities to file a report on the compensatory measures that can be given in favour of the petitioners.
NSG Commando: Govt told to file report
The panel directed the State government to file a report on the measures taken to provide education to children of Kangala Sriramulu, NSG Commando. The Commando was an expert in defusing grenades with the bomb disposal unit of National Security Guard (NSG) and was crippled badly in terror attack on Pathankot Air Force base in Punjab.
The NSG Commando is unable to walk, talk freely or perform anything on his own. He also suffers from a short-term memory loss. He went into coma for a few days and when he came out of it, his right hand, right leg and right eye were non-functional. Due to this, his family is striving hard to meet expenses.
The High Court took his case as a suo-moto public interest litigation based on a newspaper article. After repeated insistence of the court, the State government after 3 years informed that 300 sq yards of land and Rs 30 lakh amount was sanctioned to the NSG Commando as promised. When the court enquired about the education of the Commando’s children, the State government requested time to file report on the steps taken by the District Collector.
