Telangana HC seeks Centre, State response on missing student in Finland

The Telangana High Court has directed the Centre and State authorities to submit details of steps taken to trace a Hyderabad-born student missing in Finland since May 5.

Hyderabad: Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday directed the Central and State authorities to place before the Court the status of efforts being undertaken to trace a Hyderabad-born student who has been missing in Finland since May 5, 2026.

The direction came in a writ petition filed by Gujja Marnatha, seeking urgent intervention to trace her son, Gujja Manideep Reddy, an Indian citizen pursuing a Master’s degree in Finland, who has reportedly been untraceable since the first week of May.

Alleging inaction on the part of the authorities, the petitioner sought directions to the Union Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Embassy of India in Finland, the Consular Wing of the Embassy, the Protector General of Emigrants and the Telangana authorities to take effective diplomatic, administrative and coordinated measures to trace her son and ensure his safety and well-being.

The petitioner also sought directions for coordination with Finnish authorities to securing and examine relevant digital, electronic, financial, academic, transportation and surveillance records that may assist in locating him, besides seeking periodic updates on the progress of the investigation.

After hearing the matter, Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy directed the respondent authorities to apprise the Court of the steps taken so far to trace the missing student and adjourned the matter for further hearing.
