Hyderabad: A two-judge panel of the Telangana High Court comprising Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice T Amarnath Goud on Friday summoned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma and producer Natti Karuna in a contempt case. The court was dealing with a PIL filed by Perumalla Amrutha. In the petition, Amrutha stated that in the movie ‘Murder’, the filmmaker used their real names and had a disclaimer “based on true events”. It may be recalled that the movie is based on Miryalaguda honour killing case. Earlier, the court directed the filmmaker to screen the movie with a disclaimer stating that the work was ‘purely fictional’. The petitioner complained that though a stay was granted on the release of the movie, the respondents still went ahead and released the movie violating the court orders.
Release funds
The same panel on Friday directed the vice-chairman and Housing Commissioner of Telangana Housing Board to release funds and arrears that are due to be paid to its retired employees by May 31, 2021, with an interest of 7 per cent per annum. In case the employee had passed away, his/her legal heirs also have a right to get the pension, the panel stated. The court adjourned the matter to June 11 for reporting compliance with the orders.
Relief for govt
The same panel on Friday granted more time to the State government to pay the compensation due to farmers under the Land Acquisition Act. The panel was dealing with a batch of contempt cases filed by farmers from various parts of the Mahabubnagar district seeking compliance with the court order in paying compensation. The Government Pleader sought 4 weeks’ time and said “It is better late than never”. The panel conceded to the request and granted time.
