Sangareddy: Two persons were swept away in separate incidents in streams at Jharasangam and Raikode mandals in the district following heavy rains over the past week. While one body has been recovered, the search continues for the other.
In Raikode mandal, Srinivas (32) was washed away in the Yusufpur stream on Tuesday while attempting to cross it. His body was found about two kilometres downstream by Tuesday evening.
In Jharasangam mandal, Bonala Bhaskar (45) of Potpally went missing on Monday evening after reportedly being swept away in the Narinja stream. Locals said Bhaskar had entered the stream to offer prayers to goddess Ganga, as it had come alive for the first time this rainy season. Witnesses said he ventured into the fast-flowing waters and was carried away.
Police, along with fire, irrigation, revenue, and other department officials, searched until late Tuesday night without success. The search will resume on Wednesday morning. Streams across Sangareddy district are flowing in full spate after a week of copious rainfall.
