Hyderabad: Justice B Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court on Monday took up for hearing the writ plea filed by the Nalgonda town BRS president seeking permission for the Rythu Maha Dharna on Tuesday.
The court was dealing with a plea filed by Bhongir Devendar, BRS party representative, challenging the rejection order passed by the Nalgonda police. The petitioner sought permission for a peaceful protest on Tuesday from Marriguda Bypass to Clock Tower in the town. However, it was rejected by the police.
The protest is intended to express the dissatisfaction of the public in a democratic way against the false promises made by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy towards the investment assistance promised, the petitioner contended.
According to the petitioner, the government failed to implement the farm investment support scheme of Rs 15,000 per annum to the farmers. The petitioner also contended that the rejection of the permission for a peaceful protest violated the fundamental right to freedom of speech and assembly. The judge adjourned the matter to January 27 to hear the response of the Police Department.
