Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday disposed of a lunch motion petition filed by BRS working president KT Rama Rao and the party’s Jubilee Hills candidate Maganti Sunitha, alleging large-scale irregularities in the voters’ list of the constituency.

After hearing the arguments, a bench comprising Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin stated that there was no need for specific directions as the Election Commission of India (ECI) was already processing the objections as per law.

The BRS leaders had sought a judicial directive to inquire into their representations submitted to the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on October 13 and 14. In these, they alleged electoral malpractices and stressed the need to preserve the sanctity of the electoral process.

Appearing for the petitioners, senior advocate Dama Seshadri Naidu told the court that over 1,942 duplicate votes were identified for the same individuals and that more than 12,000 votes in the constituency were unrelated or bogus. He said that despite the complaints submitted on October 13, the Election Commission had failed to take action on the issue.

Representing the Election Commission, Desai Avinash Reddy argued that the electoral roll was a continuous process involving registration, deletion, and amendment throughout the year. He stated that the final list was published in July and no objections were raised then. He added that the Commission was already examining the petitioners’ complaints and had sought an explanation from the District Election Officer.
