Telangana High Court disqualifies Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender
The Telangana High Court on Friday disqualified Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagendar under the anti-defection law, setting aside the Speaker’s decision. The petition was filed by BJP floor leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy and BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy challenging his disqualification.
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has disqualified Khairatabad legislator Danam Nagender from the date of his election. This judgement of far reaching cosequences was delivered by a bench consisting of the Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin in Telangana High Court on Friday.
The petition under the anti-defection law was filed by BP floor leader Aleti Mahshwar Reddy and BRS Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy in the high court challenging the Telangana Speaker’s decision G Prasad Kumar, who struck down the petition for his disqualification.
Danam Nagendar, was elected on a BRS ticket in 2023 from Khairatabad constituency in Hyderbad, but defected to the Congress and contested the Secunderabad Lok Sabha elections on Congress ticket in 2024. Though he lost the Lok Sabha election, his decision to contest on Congress ticket while being elected as an MLA on BRS ticket drew widespread criticism.
Followign this peititons were filed seeking his disqualification under the anti-defectin law in the Telangana Assembly, but the Speaker struck down the appeal leading to the case in Telangana High Court.
