Telangana High Court grants interim relief to advocate in police harassment case

Justice Reddy specifically noted in the order that, police shall not interfere with personal liberty of the petitioner under the guise of investigation. Petitioner counsel E Venkata Siddartha, told court that the petitioner was dealing with a civil case against the complainant since 2019 and that the police are acting hand in glove with the complainant Marripalli Srinivas to pressurise the petitioner and his client to settle ongoing civil dispute.

LEGAL CORRESPONDENT

Hyderabad: Justice B Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the Siricilla granted interim relief Avunoori Ramakanth, a practicing advocate of Siricilla court who complained about police harassment. The judge reprimanded the police for acting illegally in subjecting a professional to harassment under the guise of investigation.

Justice Reddy specifically noted in the order that, police shall not interfere with personal liberty of the petitioner under the guise of investigation. Petitioner counsel E Venkata Siddartha, told court that the petitioner was dealing with a civil case against the complainant since 2019 and that the police are acting hand in glove with the complainant Marripalli Srinivas to pressurise the petitioner and his client to settle ongoing civil dispute.

Justice Reddy highlighted the importance of protecting the professional and personal liberty of advocates while observing that police should not overreach their authority. The case is posted to February 17 for the response of the police department.
