Hyderabad: The descendants of Chakali Ilamma, the icon of Telangana Armed Peasant Struggle, have opposed the appointment of Chityala Swetha as State Women’s Commission Member and demanded that the Congress government cancel her appointment.
The government had issued an order on the appointment of Chityala Swetha, who claims to be the freedom fighter’s granddaughter. However, claiming to be Chakali Ilamma’s heirs, her grandson Chityala Jampanna along with 10 other family members alleged that Chityala Swetha had misled the government.
“She is from another family,” they claimed. Chakali Ilamma descendants demanded that the State government cancel her appointment as a Women’s Commission Member. They warned that they would launch a fast-unto-death strike, if the government failed to consider their demand.
To this effect, they placed flexis at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday. This was after meeting TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Thursday and submitting a representation as well.
During their meeting with the TPCC president, the descendants alleged that Paladugu Swetha was from another family. She does not have a blood relation with our family, they maintained.
