Hyderabad: Telangana ranks sixth in sustainability ratings undertaken by policy thinktank Niti Aayog. The State has improved its score to 69 from 67 out of 100 points compared to last year, said Industries Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan.
In terms of housing for all, which is one of the sustainable development goals (SDG), the State was doing good work with its flagship 2BHK scheme but had some distance to cover in the ensuing decade. With respect to provision of clean drinking water and power supply, the State had already achieved the goals, he said.
Addressing a press conference on Monday to announce The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Sustainability Summit 2021 in October, he said, “The sustainability goals of entrepreneurs have to be implemented by 2030. There should not be any let-up in the efforts and the disruption caused by the pandemic should not delay their implementation. The TiE Sustainability Summit becomes relevant in this context as it will look to give a direction to the work happening in the implementation of these sustainability goals.”
The State is also working to empower women through SHGs and it has also started women-centric entrepreneurship incubator in the form of WE Hub. “Achieving all the SDG goals needs participation of multiple stakeholders and cannot be done by the government alone,” he said urging TiE and people associated with the implementation of SDGs to bring all stakeholders on to a single platform.
Claudio Ansorena, Ambassador of Costa Rica, which is one of the partners of the event, said: “Solutions have to be global. All countries need to collaborate and share. We chose to work with India and Israel as our shared values is common such as democracy, peace, sustainability and environment.”
“We are the first carbon neutral country. We have prohibited oil exploration. Our tourism is eco- tourism. Our beaches are the cleanest beaches. Costa Rica is a leader in sustainable environmental issues,” he said.
