Hyderabad: Demanding the withdrawal of the Wakf Amendment Act, 2025 (WAA), the Telangana Joint Action Committee, an umbrella body comprising various Muslim groups organised a ‘Maha Dharna’ at Dharna Chowk here on Saturday.
The protest meetings saw a huge participation from the members of various political, social and religious organisations in the city.
Addressing the gathering, Telangana JAC convenor Mushtaq Malik said the government introduced the Wakf Amendment Act to grab the properties of Muslims.
“It is a systematic attempt by the Modi government to target and weaken the Muslim community economically by grabbing the Wakf properties,” Mushtaq Malik said.
Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) president Majeed ullah Farhath said the Muslim community is also economically backward and the BJP government is working in a planned way to further weaken the economically and socially by introducing some or the other laws.
“The WAA is a targeted attack on the Muslims of the country. Next in line will be other minority communities in the country. All of us should get united and fight the dictatorship of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP government,” Majeed ullah Farhath said.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) minority leader Abdullah Sohail said the Muslim community will continue its agitation until the union government withdraws the WAA.
Stating that the BJP government is giving false assurances to the Muslim community about the WAA, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and former MP Syed Azeez Pasha said it is of no benefit to the Muslims.
“It is a false propaganda spread by the BJP and its sister organisations to misguide the Muslim community. The WAA at no cost is beneficial to the community,” he added.
