Hyderabad: Stating that the Congress rule in Telangana was mired in corruption, BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday said contracts, including those in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy‘s constituency, had become the monopoly of a minister from Khammam.

Addressing party workers and functionaries from Khammam who gathered at the Hyderabad residence of former Minister and BRS leader Puvvada Ajay Kumar, during an ‘Atmeeya Samavesam’, he said the Chief Minister’s sole focus was now on the commissions that were to go to the ‘Contract Minister’ from Khammam.

It was costing the welfare of the State, he said, also stating that the Deputy Chief Minister was also collecting as much as 30 per cent commission for official favours as claimed by some of his own party (Congress) MLAs.

This rampant corruption had hindered the development and effective implementation of schemes in the State. Recalling how people remembered the services of Puvvada Ajay Kumar during the recent floods in Khammam, Rama Rao criticised Congress ministers for using helicopters for personal functions and for attending birthday parties but failing to send choppers to save lives during the Munneru floods. He pointed out that the failure to ensure timely rescue had cost the lives of a family during the flood.

The BRS government had achieved extraordinary developments in Khammam since 2015. It was unfortunate that an enthusiastic leader like Puvvada Ajay Kumar had lost. The Congress had come to power by promising the moon to the people of Telangana, but failed to deliver. The BRS faced some setbacks due to the unique political situation in Khammam. Despite the loss, BRS leaders stood by the people during difficult times over the past year.

There were three ministers in Khammam, including the Deputy CM, but they did not live up to the expectations of the people during the floods, he said. During BRS rule, four helicopters were sent even to remote villages in Bhupalpally district to save people during floods. BRS had given top priority to saving lives. Even after the floodwaters receded, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy toured Khammam, waving hands from an open-top jeep, without stepping down to help people. He stated that college students had started a postcard movement asking, “What happened to our scooter?”

Every section in the State was feeling betrayed by the Congress government. Everyone in Telangana was feeling that they had lost a lot without KCR as the Chief Minister, he said, also pointing out the contradictions in statements by the Congress Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues.

“While the Agriculture Minister says the loan waivers have not yet been implemented fully, the CM claims that the loan waiver process was already completed. Such a contradiction between ministers and CM has led to Telangana’s downfall,” he said, also pointing out that the Congress had deceived the BC community.

They promised to implement 42% reservations, sub-plans, and a 1 lakh crore budget but reduced the BC population in the caste survey. The upcoming local body elections would provide an opportunity to teach Congress a lesson for deceiving every community in Telangana, he asserted, adding that the honeymoon period for Congress was over.

The Ministers in Khammam were conspiring to make the local body elections a unanimous affair by using the police. BRS will counter these conspiracies, he said.
