Hyderabad: In a bid to devise the best sports policy in the country, the Cabinet Sub-committee, under IT Minister K T Rama Rao and Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud, met at the Tourism Plaza and deliberated over various issues.
KTR said the upcoming Sports Policy will be the best in the country and he suggested key changes. He further added that the policy should include everyone.
He also stressed on the importance of physical literacy and said all schools should be made to adhere to the policy.
“Many schools in Hyderabad do not have grounds. We have to create awareness over the importance of physical fitness. There is a need to build infrastructure both in cities and rural Telangana. The State of Odisha has created a lot of sports infrastructure. We need to study their model. The focus should also be on para athletes,” said KTR.
He further revealed that the sports institutions should be devoid of politicians. “All the sports bodies should work with the government but there should not be any politicians in the associations. I will also resign from my post from sports. Collectors should be the key figure in State units and should be run under him. We will also look at providing a sports budget from Panchayat Raj like the Green Budget. We will also distribute sporting kids to youth in rural parts of the State,” he further added.
The committee, consisting of Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, also suggested that a course should be developed and made sports compulsory. Not just the athletes, even coaches should be recognised, said the committee.
Meanwhile, Srinivas Goud said they are planning to create sports infrastructure in open places. “We should also make the stadiums like LB Stadium and Gachibowli more accessible to common people so that they take up sports. The State is already a nucleus of badminton, tennis, boxing, shooting and rowing. We need to develop other disciplines as well,” said Srinivas Goud.
KTR also directed the authorities to look into the lands which were given to sporting activities but are being used by some private individuals and associations for non-sporting activities.
