Telangana launches 112 as Unified Emergency helpline

Telangana has introduced 112 as its single emergency helpline under the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS). The integrated service connects police, ambulance and fire departments, enabling faster coordination, quicker response, and easier access to emergency assistance across the State.

Hyderabad: Telangana has rolled out the unified Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) by introducing 112 as the single emergency helpline for citizens across the State.

Director General of Police CV Anand formally launched the service at the TGICCC in Banjara Hills on Wednesday. With the introduction of the new system, residents can now dial 112 to seek immediate assistance for police, ambulance and fire emergencies, replacing the earlier practice of contacting the police through Dial 100.

Officials said the integrated helpline is designed to ensure faster coordination among emergency response agencies. Once a call is received on 112, the system will assess the nature of the emergency and alert the relevant department, enabling quicker dispatch of assistance.

The initiative aligns Telangana with the nationwide Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), which aims to provide a single point of contact for all major emergency services.

The government expects the unified platform to improve response times, streamline communication between departments, and make emergency assistance more accessible to the public.

Police authorities have urged citizens to use the 112 helpline only for genuine emergencies so that emergency resources remain readily available for those in need.
