Hyderabad: Terming the upcoming local body elections in Telangana a decisive pre-final for the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), party working president KT Rama Rao said these polls would be a turning point for the party and urged cadres to treat them with utmost seriousness. He said the election outcome would set the stage for the party’s return to power in the State.

Addressing party workers at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad on Wednesday, where several leaders from the BJP and the Congress in Vikarabad and Sirpur constituencies joined the BRS, Rama Rao said the party’s victory in the local body elections was essential to ensure that party president K Chandrashekhar Rao returns to lead the State as Chief Minister once again.

“These polls must not be taken lightly. Local leaders should reach consensus on candidates. The party will fully support them. We will fight with unity in the MPTC and ZPTC elections,” he declared.

The BRS working president urged party workers to return to their constituencies and expose the Congress government’s false promises and failures. He criticised the government for failing to deliver even half of its six guarantees, stating that schemes like one tola gold under Kalyana Lakshmi and scooties for young women remain unfulfilled.

He pointed out that most farmers were yet to benefit from the promised crop loan waivers and that the government owed Rs. 40,000 each to social security pension beneficiaries. He ridiculed the Congress government’s celebrations over the distribution of ration cards and said providing them was a basic duty of the government, not something to boast about. He reminded that the previous BRS government had issued 6.5 lakh fresh ration cards during its tenure.

“The Congress came to power with guarantee cards bearing Rahul Gandhi’s photo, but the people are now realising they were nothing more than publicity material,” he remarked, adding that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was spending more time attacking former Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao than running the government.

Stating that voters were repenting for electing the Congress, Rama Rao warned that unless the BRS showed the Congress its place, Telangana would pay a heavier price. He asked the party cadre to reach out to every household and ensure the party’s victory in a majority of MPTC, ZPTC and gram panchayat seats.

The former Minister said the BRS, which came to power after the State’s formation, had always prioritised people’s welfare over party interests. He admitted to having neglected party affairs and the welfare of its activists, whom he described as the party’s foundation.

“In the coming days, we will return to power to do justice to both the government and the party,” he assured..
