Nalgonda: The man was enraged and he was inebriated. When he found his wife did not cook mutton curry for him, his fury knew no bounds and perhaps he thought sheer injustice was done to him. Who else would one approach to seek justice?

You are right! Naveen picked up his phone and called police control room to complain against his wife who did not cook mutton curry for him. Initially, the dial 100 operators took it easy considering it to be a prank. But when an inebriated Naveen called the control room six times, they knew this guy needed to be taught a lesson and alerted their superiors on Friday night.

It is not yet known, whether Naveen realised what he did, but by Saturday morning, a posse of policemen rushed to his house in Cherla Gowraram village in Kanagal mandal and took the groggy Naveen into custody. He was facing charges under sections 290 and 510 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which deal with Public nuisance and misconduct in public place by a drunken person respectively. While section 290 entails imposition of a fine, section 510 entails a day’s imprisonment and / or fine.

Naveen, police said, had consumed liquor and returned home on Friday night with mutton and ordered his wife to cook it. His wife who was obviously disenchanted with his bacchanalian spree refused to do so prompting him to call the police. The patrol policemen indeed went to his house on Friday night and found him completely inebriated. They chose to ignore him for the time being, but returned on Saturday morning to take him into custody.

Kanagal SI Nagesh cautioned people not to misuse dial 100 facility which is meant to help people in distress or in emergencies. The current case was filed against Naveen for wasting valuable time of policemen by calling 100 on an irrelevant matter, he explained.
