Telangana: Man ends life over theft allegations in Siddipet
A man in Cheriyal allegedly committed suicide after being questioned over a nearby theft. The incident during the Rakhi festival has sparked tension in the village. Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter
Siddipet: Allegations of theft against a 45-year-old man reportedly led to his suicide at Kotha Dommata village in Cheriyal mandal.
According to locals, unidentified miscreants recently looted the house of Mallam Bala Lakshmi at Inapur village in Komuravelli mandal. Since the house was located close to that of the victim, Mallam Lingam, Bala Lakshmi’s family suspected his involvement when police visited his home as part of an inquiry on Friday.
Komuravelli police had summoned Lingam for questioning on Sunday. However, he left for his in-laws’ home along with his wife on Saturday to celebrate the Rakhi festival.
Feeling humiliated, Lingam allegedly hanged himself at his in-laws’ home in the early hours of Sunday. He is survived by his wife and daughter. The incident triggered tension in the village.
The body was shifted to the government hospital in Cheriyal for post-mortem. Police registered a case and an investigation is underway.
