Karimnagar: In a chilling case of premeditated murder, a 45-year-old man was killed by having herbicide poured into his ear while in an intoxicated state near the railway track at Bommakal flyover on the outskirts of Karimnagar town on July 29.
The victim, Ailaveni Sampath, a resident of Subashnagar and a sweeper at a library, was found dead under suspicious circumstances. Karimnagar Rural Police launched a probe following a complaint by his son and identified his wife, Ramadevi, as the prime accused.
According to police, Sampath was addicted to alcohol and frequently subjected his wife to physical abuse. Ramadevi, who was in an extramarital relationship with Karre Rajaiah of Kisannagar, conspired with him and another accomplice, Keesari Srinivas of Khadergudem, to murder her husband.
As part of the plot, Rajaiah and Srinivas lured Sampath to the Bommakal flyover under the pretext of drinking. Once he was fully inebriated, they poured herbicide into his ear and fled after confirming his death.
To avoid suspicion, Ramadevi and her accomplices pretended to search for Sampath and later “discovered” the body, informing the police to mislead the investigation.
Karimnagar Police Commissioner Gaush Alam, who presented the accused before the media at the Rural Police Station on Tuesday, said Ramadevi, Rajaiah and Srinivas had been arrested and produced in court.
