Hyderabad: The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department is making all efforts to ensure that by June 2, 2022, all the municipalities and municipal corporations will have their master plans in place to facilitate planned development of the local bodies and provision of proper infrastructure.
To this effect, master plans of 70 urban local bodies have already been prepared. Some agencies have been roped in to prepare the master plans for 35 municipalities with a target to complete the task in three months.
Similarly, efforts are on to get the master plans prepared for another 37 municipalities ready in a few months. “The idea is to have the master plans prepared for all the municipalities and municipal corporations by June 2 – the State Formation Day,” a senior official from the MA&UD department told Telangana Today.
As part of master plan preparations, efforts are being made to integrate GIS mapping as well. This will help in identifying different zones like residential or commercial areas and issue building and other permissions accordingly to avoid issues in future, the official said.
In case of any discrepancies, this feature will aid in identifying the department or particular official responsible for issuing permissions in a particular zone. And, action can be initiated accordingly, the official explained.
This apart, this would also aid in monitoring revenue generation, especially focused approach towards property tax and trade licence collection, besides installation of advertisement signage boards.
Generally, 40 parameters like road network, population growth, geographical challenges, are considered while preparing master plans. Emphasis would be on covering at least 20 parameters in the master plans.
Further, once a master plan is prepared for a particular municipality, focused provision of basic amenities, like water supply, sewage lines, storm water drains, greenery development, among others, can be taken up.
During a meeting with MA&UD officials on Monday, MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao had specifically enquired about the progress of preparing master plans for urban local bodies. He instructed the officials to expedite the exercise.
