Karimnagar: MNREG field assistants on Monday staged a protest in front of the Collectorate here demanding that the State government provide them salaries.
Field assistants have not been paid salaries for the last three months. Though they gave a number of representations in the Prajavani programme, there was no response from officials, following which they staged the protest and raised slogans against the government.
They alleged that the Congress party, which made tall promises before the elections, was least bothered about their problems. They were facing troubles to run their families due to lack of salaries during the last three months.
As promised in its election manifesto, the State government should provide Rs 25,000 as salary by implementing pay-scale, provide health cards, Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia to deceased field assistants besides jobs to one of the family members, they demanded.
They warned to intensify their agitation if the government failed to respond to their demands. About 220 field assistants are working in the district and they are paid between Rs 7,500 to Rs 12,400 per month.
