Hyderabad: Several Ministers including Industries Minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday congratulated TRS MLC, lyricist and poet Goreti Venkanna, writer Devaraju Maharaju and poet Tagulla Gopal for being selected for the Sahitya Akademi awards.

In a statement, Rama Rao said getting Sahitya Akademi awards in three categories was nothing but getting more recognition for Telangana language and literature at the national level. In a tweet, Finance Minister T Harish Rao said that it was a proud moment for everyone in the State since Venkanna got the prestigious award. “Venkanna’s literature reflects the soul of Telangana,” he added.

Women and Child Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod and Social Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar also congratulated Venkanna. Congratulating Venkanna for getting the award, TRS MLC K Kavitha, in a statement, said, “Venkanna is a great man, who transformed the life of common man into literature, turned it into songs and brought awareness among the people.” “Many books written by Venkanna reflected the traditions of Telangana culture,” she said.

Telangana Sahitya Akademi chairman Juluri Gowrishankar said Venkanna getting the award was a great victory for him after taking charge as Akademi chairman.
