Hyderabad: Finance Minister T Harish Rao and Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Monday discussed in detail ways and means to narrow the gap between revenue and expenditure of power utilities in the State.
Following instructions from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the two Ministers discussed the pressure mounted by the power utilities on increasing power tariff. The discoms submitted the Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) filings for the financial year 2022-23 to Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) a few days ago.
Since the TSERC sought to know the measures to be taken to fill the gap between revenue and expenditure and its impact on discoms, the two Ministers convened a meeting with the Energy Secretary Sunil Sharma, TSTransco CMD D Prabhakar Rao and other senior officials and sought their opinion. They also decided to meet again to discuss issues pertaining to the discoms.
According to the two Ministers, the TRS government dispelled doubts expressed by former Chief Minister of undivided AP N Kiran Kumar Reddy that Telangana would face complete blackout if statehood was given to Telangana. The State government spent Rs 33,722 crore in the last seven years to ensure the supply of quality power to the people.
