Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao took a swipe at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for “playing the Supreme Court’s role” in the Legislative Assembly and making remarks on the ongoing case regarding the disqualification of turncoat MLAs.

He slammed Revanth Reddy for undermining judicial authority and violating parliamentary norms.

During the Budget discussion in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister had claimed that the defected MLAs would not be disqualified and there was no question of byelections due to the same in the State as was being stated by the BRS.

“Our Chief Minister often forgets his position. He likes to role play. Today, he decided he is the Supreme Court, passing judgments on an ongoing case of MLA defections on the Assembly floor,” he said, stating that parliamentary conventions and the House rules prohibit commentary on ongoing judicial matters.

In a statement, Rama Rao lambasted Revanth Reddy for disregarding conventions and acting above all rules. He said the Chief Minister thinks that he is above the Supreme Court.

“This is not the first time — he did the same last year and had to apologise. BRS will take this issue to court,” he asserted.

Rebuking the Chief Minister, the BRS working president requested Revanth Reddy to behave like the Chief Minister or at least pretend to care.

“You were elected to serve, but you are trying to pass the time with extravagance, daytime disguises and empty words,” he said, suggesting against bringing dishonour to the courts with dramas, sensational headlines and punch dialogues.

He asked the Chief Minister to take care of governance rather than passing the judgements. “The courts will decide about byelections as there are qualified judges for it. Focus on improving your governance. Passing judgements is not your job,” he said.
