Hyderabad: Plans are afoot to conduct centralised recruitment for vacant assistant professor posts in the State universities, with the Telangana government intending to go in for a common screening test.
The government is exploring the options of entrusting the task to the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) or setting up a separate body or agency. For either option, the government has to amend Acts of the universities concerned, officials connected with the development said.
This apart, options are also being considered as to who will hold the interviews after the screening test.
Presently, upon receiving an approval from the government for filling teaching vacancies, the universities concerned issued employment notifications inviting applications from eligible candidates. This is followed by the interviews by an expert committee in the university. But this process of the universities got into legal problems on several occasions in the past.

“As recruitment for teaching vacancies in the universities got into legal tangles in the past, the State government is now keen on holding a common screening test. This might be done through the TSPSC or a separate body, which is likely to be established for the purpose. An announcement is expected to be made shortly,” officials said.
It may be noted here that the government has already permitted recruitment to 1,061 teaching posts in the universities, including Osmania University, Kakatiya University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Palamuru University, Satavahana University, Telangana University, Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies, Dr BR Ambedkar Open University, Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad.
Of these, the OU got a major share with 415 posts, including 294 of assistant professor and 121 of associate professor cadre. However, there were no posts for recruitment to the professor cadre.
