Dubai: Telangana NRI devotees are promoting the prominence of Vemulawada Rajanna in the Arabian Gulf through the annual Kalyanam (celestial wedding), with Oman emerging as the first country in the region to host the event.
The Shiva Kalyanotsavam, the celestial wedding of Lord Shiva and Parvathi, popularly known as the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Kalyanotsavam of Vemulawada, was recently conducted with religious fervour in Oman.
The event, organised by the Oman Telangana Samiti (OTS), was held at the Sri Krishna Mandir in Muscat, one of the oldest Hindu temples in the Gulf region. The temple premises echoed with devotional chants as devotees gathered in large numbers despite volatile conditions in the region.
Indian Ambassador to Oman, G V Srinivas, attended the ceremony as chief guest.
“We prayed for peace and prosperity in Oman and the wider Gulf region during the Kalyanam,” said Nune Laxman, one of the organisers and a key member of OTS.
