Hyderabad: The move to deliver prasadam packs at the doorstep of devotees by State Endowments Department in association with India Post is turning out to be a big hit with over 25,000 packs being delivered so far including in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
The Endowments Department and the India Post joined hands for the unique service, which was launched on March 27 early this year. Under the initiative, prasadam packs of 10 popular temples in Telangana are being delivered at the home of devotees through speed post.
As many as 25,797 packs have been delivered since the launch of the scheme. Of these, majority have been booked from Sri Seetharama Swamy temple, Bhadrachalam, especially during the Sri Rama Navami festival, said a senior official from Business Development wing of India Post here.
Under the Sri Seetha Ramaswamy Temple special prasadam seva, an 80 gram pack containing Bhadrachala Seetharama Swamy Kalyana Talambralu (10 grams) with two pearls, vermilion and sugar candy was offered to the devotees. Each prasadam pack costs Rs 300.
Though the prasadam pack delivery scheme is extended at other temples, the demand was very high for Bhadrachalam temple prasadam.
Considering the Covid pandemic, the scheme turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the devout, especially for the aged.
Most devotees made good use of the service extended by the Endowments Department and the India Post, especially during lockdown, the official informed. Utmost care was taken while delivering the prasadam packs with strict adherence to Covid guidelines. The India Post ensured that the prasadam making premises and packing materials are duly sanitised before they are put into use. The temple managements continuously monitor that all the temple staff involved in preparation of prasadam are following Covid protocols, especially wearing hand gloves, face shields etc.
During delivery of the prasadam packs, the postal staff members are directed to strictly follow the Covid guidelines, particularly sanitisation and maintaining physical distance. It will be delivered in about 2 to 3 days at the doorstep of devotees within the State. This service is also being extended through 1.6 lakh post offices across the country.
However, there is demand from devotees that more measures should be taken to improve the service as many festivals like Bonalu, Vinayaka Chavithi, Dasara and Deepawali and other auspicious occasions are to be celebrated in the coming days at different temples. The Endowments Department is also facilitating devotees to book offline Arjitha Seva services at the prescribed temples through post offices.
