PDSU Khammam district committee stage protest against deportation of Indians from US in handcuffs.
Khammam: Progressive Democratic Students’ Union (PDSU) Khammam district committee staged a protest here on Friday against deportation of Indians from the US in handcuffs.
The union activists wearing face masks of the US President Donald Trump and handcuffs shouted slogans against the US government. They also burnt an effigy of the US President.
Speaking to the media, PDSU State assistant secretary Venkatesh and district president Laxman questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi remained silent even if Indian citizens were sent in handcuffs to the country.
The Central government boasts that America was a friend of India but the Trump government behaved rather inhumanly towards Indians. Does the Modi government consider illegal immigrants as criminals like America did, they questioned.
The fact that 14 of the Indians deported were from Khammam district was worrying. Students who went to America to pursue MS have no chance of surviving unless they do part-time jobs.
The students took loans worth Rs 25 lakh to Rs 50 lakh from banks to go to America and some others mortgaged their properties. It was shameful that the Modi government has not responded to the crisis even though the government knows about the deportation, Venkatesh said.
Why the Centre did not send a plane to the US to bring Indians back to the country? The Minister of External Affairs and Prime Minister Modi should answer to the plight of the students and take measures for the protection of Indians in the US, the leaders said.
