Hyderabad: Starting this academic year, postgraduate courses in conventional universities will have a common academic calendar. A decision to this effect has been taken during a meeting convened by the officials of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education with Vice Chancellors of various universities in the State here on Tuesday.
So far, the common academic calendar is being implemented for undergraduate courses in conventional universities. Now on, the academic calendar including admissions, classes and examinations will be the same for six universities – Osmania University, Kakatiya University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Satavahana University, Telangana University and Palamuru University.
The said conventional universities have been asked to draft a common calendar for the next VCs meeting which is scheduled to be held on December 13. Presently, conventional universities offering PG courses have different academic calendars.
“Discussions on the common academic calendar i.e., admissions, classwork and exams have been discussed at length. Modalities will be prepared by the six conventional universities for the common academic calendar,” TSCHE Chairman Prof R Limbadri told Telangana Today.
In view of the new Covid-19 variant, the universities were told to take necessary precautions besides holding awareness programmes on the safety measures that needed to be followed in the educational institutions. They were asked to hold special vaccination drives on the campuses for students, teaching and non-teaching staff who were yet to take the vaccine against the Covid-19.
During the meeting, discussions were also held on improving the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grading for the higher educational institutions particularly those located in the rural areas. As the academic year commenced, the officials were asked to step up vigil on the campuses and ensure no ragging incidents.
