Telangana placed in top ten of CII–Sohrabji Godrej GreenCo rankings
Telangana has been ranked among India’s top ten states in the CII–Sohrabji Godrej GreenCo ratings, with Maharashtra taking the lead and Andhra Pradesh placed ninth.
Hyderabad: Telangana has been ranked among India’s top ten in the CII–Sohrabji Godrej GreenCo ratings with Maharashtra securing the top position and Andhra Pradesh placed in the 9th position.
Since the rating system of GreenCo was introduced in 2012, according to N. Muthusezhiyan, Deputy Executive Director, CII GreenCo Council, Hyderabad, a total of 17 industries in Telangana have secured Platinum Plus, Platinum, Gold, and Silver ratings.
The rating is given to the industries to improve environmental performance and go beyond sheer compliance and also to save both natural and financial resources. For a rating to an industry, CII-GreenCo considers nine parameters and measures the performance fixing points to each parameter that totals to 1,000 points, Muthusezhiyan said.
These parameters include management system, energy management, carbon management, water management, material resource management, green supply chain-, product stewardship and life cycle approach, innovation for environment, and green belt environment and others.
GreenCo awards a Platinum rating to an industry that scores 750 points and a Platinum Plus is given to industries that continue to improve and excel with 850 points.
“ITC Limited, Badhrachalam, is the only company among 17 in Telangana to be ranked with ‘Platinum Plus’ in 2023. Two companies, including Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Charlapally, and Hindustan Sanitaryware and Industries (Pipes Division), were awarded Platinum ratings. Another nine companies were awarded a ‘Gold’ rating, and the remaining five companies were awarded a ‘Silver’ rating,” he said.
For GreenCo ratings, a total of 51 companies have registered with GreenCo, and of them, 42 were recognized as GreenCo rated companies, three received ‘Net Zero certifications,’ and for six others, assessment of rating is in progress.
Greening MSMEs in Telangana through the RAMP project:
Meanwhile, the CII is implementing the RAMP (Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance) Project with a focused agenda of greening 2,000 MSMEs in Telangana through capacity building, sustainability interventions, and adoption of resource-efficient practices.
GreenCO also partners with Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) and encourages initiatives for industries to adopt resource-efficient and green manufacturing practices through special recognition and incentive mechanisms.
“Telangana has a strong industrial base and significant potential to emerge as a leader in sustainable manufacturing. Such initiatives could significantly accelerate industrial decarbonisation efforts and contribution,” added Muthusezhiyan.
