Hyderabad: World over, the tourism and hospitality sector have been hit hard by the Covid pandemic. Telangana Tourism was no exception but the silver lining in 2021 was the historic Ramappa temple getting the UNESCO World Heritage Site tag and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation selecting Pochampally as one of the best Tourism Villages.
Buoyed by these achievements, efforts are on to place Telangana Tourism on the global map. To begin with, this year, Telangana Tourism Policy would be unveiled, Tourism Minister V Srinivas Goud told ‘Telangana Today’ in an exclusive interview.
This will help in further boosting tourism prospects and development of new facilities such as eco-tourism projects, construction of new hotels and restaurants and others. Possibilities of optimum utility of tourism resources and assets under Public Private Partnership mode can be explored as per the policy guidelines, the Minister said, adding it will infuse new confidence and trigger more activities.
The focus will be on developing eco-tourism projects at Kaleshwaram, Annaram and Sundilla reservoirs and Ranganayaka Sagar as well. Besides, consultants for Manair riverfront development have already been finalised and things will gain pace this year on these projects. They will be the new tourist destinations in the State, Goud further said.
On Ramappa Temple securing World Heritage Site recognition and Pochampally being selected as one of the best tourism villages, he said, “It was Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s vision and guidance which helped in getting these recognitions.” These achievements will now place Telangana prominently on the national and international tourism maps. Already, there is a steady flow of visitors at these sites and efforts are on to improve facilities for the convenience and comfort of tourists, the Minister said.
Yadadri and Buddhavanam are two major striking attractions, which will draw many domestic and international tourists to the State. People are keen on ‘Maha Kumbha Samproshana’ of Yadadri, which is slated on March 28. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao would also inaugurate the Buddhavanam project at Nalgonda this year, he said.
“Yadadri and Buddhavanam will result in a good influx of tourists to the State. Besides revenue generation, they will open up new avenues in the hospitality sector,” says Srinivas Goud. On Telangana Tourism’s part, special tour packages would be launched connecting Buddhavanam, Yadadri, Pochampally, and Ramappa temple for the convenience of tourists.
