Khammam: An army jawan, Budala Manoj of Bonakal in the district, who was in the news after he was allegedly beaten up by Congress leaders, was found to be a deserter.
A warrant was issued against Manoj by the army and on Friday, he was arrested and handed over to the army headquarters in Hyderabad, Wyra ACP MA Rahaman said.
The jawan had absconded from his duties in the past as well and had fled after being caught by the army officials. Also, he was an accused in several criminal cases, including sexually harassing a young woman and harassing his wife.
Manoj, who was the accused in a clash that took place at Nagulavancha petrol pump, was brought to the police station for questioning.
Based on the complaint of Manoj that several persons had attacked him on the police station premises, cases were registered against two persons under SC/ST (Atrocities Prevention Act) and they were arrested, the ACP reminded.
Although the investigation was going on impartially without any basis for any allegations, it was not right for the jawan Manoj to deliberately make false allegations against the local police on social media and behave in a way that hurt the morale of the police, Rahaman added.
