Telangana police on high alert to tackle drug abuse during New Year parties in Hyderabad

The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau, in association with the Prohibition and Excise Department and local police formed 19 teams to conduct checking at pubs, bars, hotels, farm houses and places where New Year events are scheduled

Hyderabad: As Hyderabad gears up to bid adieu to year 2024 and usher in the New Year on Tuesday, revelers are under the close radar of the authorities for possible use of drugs.

Telangana police has geared up to tackle the drug abuse during New Year parties at recreational hubs of the city. The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau, in association with the Prohibition and Excise Department and local police formed 19 teams to conduct checking at pubs, bars, hotels, farm houses and places where New Year events are scheduled.

“The message is clear. Enjoy and chill but say no to drugs,” said a senior official of the Telangana police.

The police are deploying sniffer dogs to assist them in finding substances hidden at secret places by the drug addicts and smugglers. “Intelligence network is activated and basing on inputs special teams will conduct raids or search operations to check drug abuse in parties,” said the official.

In last three days, the police had intensified its checking at the pubs, bars, resorts, farm houses and places where events are planned. The police officials said they would not hesitate to check the events in gated communities, if they get any information about revelers using drugs.

Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) and Cyberabad Police raided on Sunday raided a party and subjected 14 persons to advanced drug testing out of which 8 tested positive. A case is registered against them.

Meanwhile, the traffic police teams will conduct drunk driving checking from 8 pm onwards till the wee hours next day to curb accidents. The traffic police across the State have formed special teams for taking up the exercise.
