Hyderabad: Special Chief Secretary for Irrigation Rajat Kumar on Monday reiterated that the State government was ready to submit the detailed project reports (DPRs) of new projects being constructed in the State as per the Union Jal Shakti Ministry’s directions. However, he reminded that the projects like Devadula, Palamuru-Rangareddy, Dindi and others were old projects which were taken up after obtaining all approvals.
Rajat Kumar chaired a meeting with engineering and legal experts to discuss all possible options to ensure justice to Telangana State in the wake of the Centre’s gazette notification fixing the jurisdiction of the River Management Boards of Krishna and Godavari Rivers respectively, without finalising the water share of Telangana State in both the river waters. He said the State government was examining the Centre’s decision to take over all irrigation projects on Rivers Krishna and Godavari. The government was also examining all options including administrative, technical and legal aspects to ensure that the Centre responds to the just demand for fixing the rightful share of Telangana State in Krishna River waters.
On the occasion, the Special Chief Secretary urged the Centre to review and re-allocate the State’s share in Krishna River waters. Until then, the State government has been demanding that the total 811 TMC of available water should be divided equally between both the States.
