Nalgonda/Suryapet: A large number of farmers voluntarily participated in Rythu Maha Dharna staged by TRS in Assembly constituency headquarters in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Yadadri-Bhongir districts on Friday, demanding procurement of paddy by the Centre.

The farmers arrived at the dharna venue in tractors and bullock carts from surrounding villages and participated in the dharna. TRS leaders from all the villages too participated in the Maha Dharna at their Assembly constituency centres.

Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy and Rajya Sabha member Badugula Lingaiah Yadav participated in the Rythu Maha Dharna at Suryapet Collectorate. Jagadish Reddy alleged that the Centre was acting irresponsibly on farmers’ issues. Though Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao met the Prime Minister and Union Agriculture Minister to request reconsideration of its decision, there was no change in attitude, he said. He pointed out that paddy was being cultivated in more than 64 lakh acres in Telangana and the decision of the Centre would badly impact the interests of the farmers of the State.

He said that BJP leaders from Telangana were enacting drama on paddy procurement and trying to get political mileage out of the issue. He made it clear that the TRS was committed to protect the interests of the farmers and would intensify its agitation if the Centre failed to give clarity on paddy procurement. He dubbed the BJP government at the Centre as anti-farmer.

In Nalgonda, former chairman of Telangana State Legislative Council Gutha Sukender Reddy, former vice chairman Nethi Vidya Sagar and Nalgonda MLA Kancherla Bhupal Reddy participated in the dharna held at Clock Tower Centre in the town. TRS MLAs and leaders also participated in Rythu Maha Dharnas conducted at Tahsildar offices of all Assembly Constituency centres in erstwhile Nalgonda.
