Mulugu: COVID-19 claimed the life of a priest at the popular Sammakka-Sarakka shrine in Medaram on Thursday.

Siddaboina Samma Rao (35) succumbed to the virus while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Warangal on Thursday. It may be recalled here that Samma Rao’s wife Srujana (25) too died of COVID-19 on May 12 while undergoing treatment at the government hospital in Mulugu.

A pall of gloom descended on Medaram village, where the Koya priests’ families reside. The couple has a daughter and a son. Relatives are in a deep state of shock since the coupled died at a young age, leaving the children behind as orphans.
