Hyderabad: The Telangana Sarpanches Sangham Joint Action Committee has urged the State Government to release long-pending bills and help former sarpanches overcome financial stress.
In a representation to the Chief Minister’s Office, the Joint Action Committee requested clearance of bills for development works executed between 2019 and 2024. Joint Action Committee president S. Yadaiah Goud highlighted that some former sarpanches, unable to cope with mounting debts, had even committed suicide. With the State Election Commission releasing the local bodies election schedule, delays in bill clearance could exacerbate the stress, he warned.
“Many former sarpanches are under financial strain and are unable to celebrate Dasara,” Yadaiah Goud added.
Meanwhile, the State government on Monday released Rs 104 crore to clear pending bills of Panchayat Secretaries. With Gram Panchayat elections delayed for the past 18 months, there were no sarpanches, and Panchayat Secretaries had been using personal funds for essential works like sanitation and disinfectant spraying in villages.
