Telangana seeks approval to host Khelo India Youth Games 2026
Telangana Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari urged Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to approve Khelo India proposals, including the 2026 Youth Games in Hyderabad and key sports infrastructure projects across the state
Telangana Sports Minister V. Srihari led a delegation to meet Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya regarding various sports projects in the State.
Hyderabad: Telangana Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari met Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on Friday and sought immediate approval for proposals under the Khelo India scheme, including hosting the Khelo India Youth Games 2026 in Hyderabad.
The Sports Minister requested sanction for key infrastructure projects including:
400m synthetic athletics track at Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri
Multipurpose indoor stadium at Bhuvanagiri
Swimming pool at Rayagiri
Synthetic track at Palamuru University (Mahbubnagar)
Multipurpose hall at Satavahana University (Karimnagar)
Archery range, hockey field and synthetic track at Hakimpet Sports School
Squash courts and athletic track at LB Stadium, Hyderabad
Development of Gachibowli hockey complex
Synthetic track at Mahatma Gandhi University (Nalgonda)
Srihari also informed the Union Minister about Telangana’s new sports policy, which has received wide appreciation, and briefed him on the success of National Sports Day celebrations and the “Sundays on Cycle” initiative, actively promoted in Telangana with participation from the Governor.
The Telangana Minister emphasized Hyderabad’s readiness to host national and international sporting events and expressed the State’s willingness to conduct certain disciplines if the Commonwealth or Olympic Games are held in India.
The Minister appealed to the Union Government to extend full cooperation.
