Hyderabad: After a brief respite from recent thundershowers, Hyderabad and surrounding districts are gearing up for a spike in mercury levels starting Tuesday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, on Sunday issued a weather bulletin indicating that while isolated rain may persist till Monday, a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2 degree to 3 degree Celsius is expected over the following four days.

At present, Telangana is experiencing light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in isolated pockets at Adilabad, Hyderabad, and Khammam. However, by Tuesday, the weather is expected to turn dry across the entire state, clearing the way for intensifying heat. The northern districts including Adilabad, Nirmal, and Nizamabad are already under alert with temperatures between 41 degree Celsius and 44 degree Celsius.

By Tuesday, the orange alert zone, indicating temperatures in the 41 to 44 degree Celsius bracket, is expected to cover western and central districts of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, and Mahabubnagar. Eastern districts, including Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and Mulugu, are projected to maintain slightly lower temperatures in the 36 to 40 degree Celsius range.

Mercury levels recorded by the IMD in the 24-hours (till 8.30 am on Sunday) indicated several regions already grappling with significant heat. The highest temperature in the state was recorded at Adilabad, reaching 40.5 degree Celsius. Other areas seeing high mercury levels (in degrees Celsius) include Nizamabad at 40.4 while Khammam and Nalgonda at 40.

In the capital region, maximum temperatures remained relatively moderate due to recent thundershower activity, with GHMC area recording 36.4 at Begumpet, Dundigal with 37.6 and Medak recording 38 degree Celsius.
