Hyderabad: Despite all the hurdles and non cooperation from Central Government, Telangana government has set a new record in paddy procurement in Vanakalam season.
Civil Supplies Minister G Kamalakar said the exercise to procure paddy as per the targets set by Centre has almost concluded.
As per the Centre targets of 46 lakh quintals rice procurement, which is equivalent to 68.65 lakh quintals of paddy, till January 3, 65.20 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was procured, he said. The Government was prepared to procure additional quantities of paddy stocks, which come to the procurement centres, the Minister said at a meeting here on Tuesday.
Despite the inconvenience caused by Central Government in the Vanakalam season, the Telangana Government stood by the farmers and procured the paddy without any discomfort to the ryots, he said.
As many as 6,868 paddy procurement centres were set up across the State of which 4,808 centres were closed as the procurement was completed at such places, the Minister said.
The paddy worth Rs.12,761 crore was procured from over 11.90 lakh farmers across the State. Of these, Rs.10, 394 crore was deposited into the accounts of nearly 8 lakh farmers, the Minister said.
The exercise to offer custom milled rice to Food Corporation of India was under progress. Milling of about 4 lakh metric tonnes of rice pertaining to Vanakalam season was completed so far, he added.
