Hyderabad: A day after the Karnataka cabinet approved the Rohit Vemula Karnataka Bill, the Telangana government constituted a Cabinet Sub-Committee to suggest recommendations for the proposed Rohit Vemula Telangana Bill, 2026.

To this effect, GOMs 490 was issued on Friday. The proposed Bill is aimed at preventing identity-based discrimination in higher educational institutions.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka is the Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee. Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and Health Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha are members of the Committee.

The Special Chief Secretary to Government (Scheduled Caste Development Department) is the Convenor of the Sub- Committee.

The Cabinet sub-committee would study and make recommendations or suggestions for framing suitable legislation on the Rohit Vemula Telangana (Prevention of identity based discrimination in higher education) Bill, 2026.

Though there is no specific deadline, the Sub-Committee has been asked to submit its recommendations at the earliest.

The Telangana government is taking a cue from the Karnataka government in constituting the cabinet Sub-committee. The Karnataka cabinet had approved the Rohit Vemula Karnataka Bill on Thursday.
