Hyderabad: The XI Telangana State Shooting Championship, organised by the Telangana Rifle Association (TRA), commenced on Saturday at the SATG Shooting Range, University of Hyderabad (Gachibowli), with a record 500 entries.

The championship marks an important event in the State’s sporting calendar and reinforces TRA’s commitment to nurturing competitive shooting.

The training day witnessed an impressive turnout, with participants engaged in intensive practice sessions across multiple ranges—including 10m Air Rifle/Pistol, 25m Pistol, 50m Rifle, and Trap events. The venue was filled with anticipation as athletes fine-tuned their skills ahead of the main competition.

Mr Amit Sanghi, President of the Telangana Rifle Association and Vice President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), inaugurated the meet. The TRA team, led by Sanghi, inspected the competition areas—25m, 50m, and Shotgun (Trap) ranges—and verified equipment compliance with international standards. He also interacted with participants, encouraging them and acknowledging their dedication.

“This championship is more than just a competition—it is a celebration of the growing talent pool and infrastructure in Telangana. The passion and performance of our young shooters reflect a bright future for shooting sports in the state,” Sanghi said.

The main competition rounds will begin on Sunday at 8 am, featuring events such as trap, 25m pistol, and 10m air pistol for both men and women.

“Over the coming days, athletes will compete under strict, internationally recognised rules and technical standards, ensuring a fair and high-caliber tournament,” the TRA chief added.

He also highlighted the significance of the event as a platform for identifying grassroots talent and enabling state-level shooters to qualify for zonal and national tournaments.
