Telangana: Six students fell unconscious after inhaling smoke in Karimnagar
Six students of Government Junior College (Girls), Osmanpura, fainted after inhaling smoke from litter burnt in a nearby school. They were hospitalised and are stable. Examinations were postponed, while ABVP activists demanded an inquiry into the cause of the foul smoke

KARIMNAGAR: Six students of Government Junior College (Girls), Osmanpura here, fell ill after inhaling the smoke emanating from the burning of litter on Tuesday.
The incident occurred while the students of junior college were preparing for examinations, while sitting in classrooms and in the veranda during their study hour.
Smoke emanated from the litter burnt in the adjacent government school. After inhaling the smoke spread from it, six students fell unconscious one after another.
College authorities immediately shifted them to the district headquarters hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The condition of students is stable.
Since half-yearly examinations are in progress, about 1000 students were preparing for an English exam scheduled on Tuesday afternoon. Of them, six students fainted. In the wake of the incident, college authorities postponed the examination and sent students to their homes.
Knowing about the incident, ABVP activists rushed to the spot and alleged that the student fainted after inhaling foul smoke emanating from the litter, wherein some medicines were dropped.
College principal Nirmala said that six students fell unconscious after inhaling the smoke spread from the litter burnt by adjacent school staff. When she asked school staff, they informed that the litter had been burnt since the Collector is going to visit the school.
The condition of students is stable, she informed and added that all the students sent to homes by postponing the exam after getting permission from higher officials.
